In Memoriam: Stephen Clark

A Life of Character, Creativity & Community

It is with deep sadness and respect that we honor the life of Stephen Clark (May 18, 1948 – December 26, 2025), a cherished member of the NFOSD community whose courage, insight, and resilience touched countless lives.

Stephen (“Steve”) passed away peacefully at his home in Camp Verde, Arizona, after bravely confronting head and neck cancer for the third time earlier in 2025. At the time of his passing, he was in remission — a testament to his strength and determination in facing the challenges of illness with grace.

Steve’s Voice: Sharing His Journey

In 2016, Steve shared his personal story with NFOSD in “A Newfound Meaning to Life.” In this deeply honest reflection, he opened about his experiences living with the effects of head and neck cancer, including the medical challenges that altered his ability to swallow and speak.

Rather than focusing on limitation, Steve’s narrative was suffused with resilience. He wrote about how his diagnosis reshaped his outlook, helping him find meaning and purpose in life beyond the medical realities. He described his journey not as one of loss, but as an opportunity for growth, adaptation, and deeper appreciation for life’s joys — however small.

He acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, who played a critical role in connecting him with NFOSD and some of the specialists who could help him navigate his care. Above all, Steve’s words offered encouragement and hope to others facing similar challenges: a reminder that even in hardship, there can be meaningful moments, discoveries, and connection.

With Gratitude and Remembrance

We extend our deepest condolences to Steve’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and his voice. May his legacy continue to encourage others to find meaning, resilience, and community no matter the challenges they face.
