Shumon Dhar, M.D. Assistant Professor

Dr. Dhar is Chief of The Johns Hopkins Swallowing Center and Attending Laryngologist in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Dhar earned his medical degree at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse NY. He then went on to complete his fellowship in Laryngology and Bronchoesophagology at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Dhar is passionate about helping patients with profound swallowing disorders through a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach. His clinical research interests include minimally invasive surgery for laryngopharyngeal reflux disease, management of pharyngoesophageal diverticula, advances in swallowing fluoroscopy, pharyngoesophageal motility disorders, the effects of cervical spine surgery on swallowing, and medical education. Dr. Dhar has lectured nationally and internationally and authored numerous peer reviewed articles on dysphagia. In addition, Dr. Dhar is active in many national organizations and serves on the airway and swallowing committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
