My daughter is 2.3 years old. Since birth she has not been able to swallow, doesn’t even swallow her saliva, need regular suctioning & on medication Glycopyrolate 3mg for that. She is on PEG since 1.5 years, earlier was on RT feeds.
We live in Mumbai, India.
All the tests are normal since birth – MRI of brain (done thrice), EEG, EMG, genetic tests (SGH, Fish test).
Recent fluoroscopy study test showed that she held fluid in her mouth for long time, then she unintentionally swallows & there is no in-coordination at oropharynx as well as esophagus. Speech therapist has observed that swallowing is not trigerred at all, we are thinking of trying Vitalstim therapy now.
Please guide for treatment of this acute swallowing problem in small child.
Thanks,
