TAD Talk Description: In this talk, the speaker will define financial toxicity and how this is experienced by patients with head and neck cancer. The various costs associated with the disease, including treatment, medications, transportation, and lost income will be highlighted. The speaker will also emphasize the need for healthcare providers to address the financial burden of cancer care and to provide resources and support to patients to help mitigate the effects of financial toxicity.


Meet the Presenter

Liza Blumenfeld, MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-S

Liza is a medical speech-language pathologist, serving patients with complex swallowing and communication disorders for over 25 years. Her current role is as co-director of the Hanna and Mark Gleiberman Head and Neck Cancer Center at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Her research interests include investigation of complex cancer treatments on objective and patient-reported swallowing function and outcomes. Liza is passionate about finding ways to move past the current status quo in dysphagia management, allowing patients to enjoy a safer and more meaningful quality of life.
