Company Description: Diane Wolff, the Founder, is an author who writes about China. She gave up the writer’s life when she became her mother’s primary caregiver. When her mom was diagnosed with a swallowing disorder related to dementia, Diane created a puree menu for her. Her Mom, Cathie G, thrived on the diet, an update of family recipes for classic American comfort food.
Diane was encouraged by her mother’s primary care physician to create a cookbook that would be educational for those with swallowing disorders. He said that physicians needed tools to give to their patients.
The library was written with the caregiver perspective in mind, For those in home health care or with loved ones in a facility, the goal is to put an end to patient boredom, depression and malnutrition by.creating delicious food in a different form.
Diane interviewed numerous health care professionals including speech-language, pathologists and dietitians, as well as an expert in long-term healthcare.
The Essential Puree Library has been the recipient of the Caregiver Friendly Award from Today’s Caregiver magazine in 2017 and 2021. It won honorable mention in 2021 from Maude’s Awards for innovation in Alzheimer’s care.
Diane launched her first book, Essential Puree: The A to Z Guidebook as an emergency response manual for setting up and running a dysphagia kitchen. It is meant to be an aid to family so are often in a state of confusion and disarray when they learn that from this moment on all foods for their loved on will have to be pureed. The launch at a symposium of the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2015 was a success particularly with students.
The Essential Puree Library has expanded to include nine eBooks, including the Seasons of Puree series (six books) and several specialty books, including a guidebook for the sandwich generation caught between growing kids and aging parents, Betsy’s Mom Was Diagnosed and Betsy Has A Full-Time Job.
