Across the Table: Connecting Patient and Provider Perspectives

This Dysphagia Awareness Month, we’re launching a new short video series called “Across the Table: Patient & Provider Perspectives.”

Dysphagia impacts people in deeply personal ways—and meaningful understanding happens when we hear from both sides of the table.

We’re inviting patients living with dysphagia and healthcare providers who care for them to participate in brief, recorded conversations that highlight real experiences, challenges, insights, and hope.

Example Video

What’s involved:

Record a short (2-3 minute) video conversation between patient and provider

Use guided prompts to support an easy, natural dialogue

Send recording to the NFOSD

Recording will be shared through the NFOSD social media and awareness campaign

Why participate:

Help raise awareness about dysphagia

Share your lived experience or clinical insight

Contribute to a powerful, educational storytelling campaign

Connect with others in the dysphagia community

Guided Prompts:

For Patients

What has been the most surprising part of living with dysphagia?

What do you wish more people understood about your day-to-day experience?

What is something small that has made a big difference in managing your dysphagia?

What challenges do you navigate that may not always be visible to providers?

For Providers

What gives you hope when treating people with dysphagia?

What have you learned from your patients that impacts your practice?

What do you wish you had more time to discuss with patients?

Whether you are a patient, caregiver, SLP, physician, or other healthcare provider—your perspective matters and can make a difference.
